Anna Sui is receiving a fashion show in New York

Luxury designer Anna Sui will be at the center of a new exhibition that will be launched in the fall.

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York has announced "The World of Anna Sui", a large retrospective that pays tribute to the iconic US creativity, known for its artistic clothes of contemporary vintage inspiration.

"Born and raised in Detroit, Anna Sui is a fascinating American design success story," said Chris Scoates, director of Nanette L. Laitman of MAD.

"Season after season, Sui translates popular culture and artisanal production into collections that pulsate with enthusiasm, reflect and expand the creative spirit of the times and move the needle for what fashion can and should be for a global market. diversified.

The show will present 75 looks from the Sui archive, on the occasion of its inaugural presentation of the 1991 fashion and its Spring 2019 collection.

It will be thematically organized according to its 13 design archetypes – which include "Rock Star", "Schoolgirl", "Punk", "Nomad" and "Surfer" – and will explore the designer's wide-ranging influences from the famous London boutique Biba to pirates, pre-Raphaelite girls and Minnie Mouse.

Iconic pieces designed by the star will be accompanied by sketches, mood boards and fashion show videos that explore his eclectic fashion career.

Sui rose to prominence in the 80s, but his work remains as current as ever. At the beginning of this year, he collaborated with the cult footwear brand Teva on a series of sandals and collaborated with online retailer ModCloth last fall on an inclusive size fashion series inspired by his pieces of clothing.
